Question #5 What is Namakkal like? Namakkal is a rural city of about 1 million and a half people. It is very traditional; the women wear sari's and salwar kameezes and many of the men wear shirts with a skirt like wrap-around. Some of the professional men wear regular slacks and shirts. It's a very friendly and helpful city and the people are very kind. It has a tropical atmosphere as there are palm trees and beautiful flora. There are thousands of scooters, bicycles, and auto taxis. The traffic is very scary at first, but you get used to it. They honk instead of using blinkers so it is noisy. There are people everywhere, moving around, working, talking, selling, etc. There are mountains in the distance and many temples.
