Meditation Of The Month

October 2008

While in India, our team visited a private school just outside the town of Namakkal.  We were treated to hear the students recite their pledge:

"India is my country.  All Indians are my brothers and sisters.  I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage. I shall always strive to be worthy of it.  I shall give my parents, teachers, and all elders respect and treat everyone with courtesy.  To my country and to my people, I pledge my devotion.  In their well-being and prosperity alone lies my happiness."

As we approach our national election here in the United States, I can't help but feel that these sentiments should be our sentiments.  Pledging allegiance to a flag pales in the face of devotion to the well-being and prosperity of people.  As Christians, we seek to fulfill the two great commandments:  to love God and to love neighbor.  Let us remember that that is where our deepest allegiance lies

and where our greatest hope resides.

Blessings,

Pastor Betty
